In 1969, with the dream of making a new living, the Amaral family relocated from the Azores Islands, Portugal to Toronto, Canada. Three years later, at the young age of fifteen, George Amaral, the middle son of seven brothers, was sent by his parents to the United States.
There, George lived with his aunt who farmed a small piece of land in the Salinas Valley. Through George's dedication and perseverance, he has turned his business from its humble beginning, in which he borrowed a tractor and rented a small piece of land, into the largest transplant broccoli grower in California. Duiring this time period, he brought his mother and father from Toronto to live with him and now employs most of his brothers on his farm.
Richard Bennett was raised on a small Citrus Ranch in
the Central San Joaquin Valley of California. Since 1984, he
has been exporting fruits and vegetables to the Far East.
His experiences outside of his personal farming of citrus, cherries and kiwifruit has been in citrus packing houses. After college, Richard was employed by the Sunkist Packing House management trainee program. He felt it was important to understand the grading, packing and shipping of oranges, lemons and grapefruit prior to being an effective exporter.
This commitment to obtaining a broad base of product knowledge of citrus fruit has been applied to the other products marketed by Ocean Breeze Exports.
